     Clubhouse is a psychosocial rehabilitative model designed to help adults with a severe and persistent mental illness reintegrate into the community. The clubhouse model differs from traditional day treatment programs as participants, considered members, work alongside staff in a work-ordered day. Members are able to work on goals that they have established for themselves as they work towards their personal mental health recovery.

Four County Mental Health operates two clubhhouse programs;

Transitional Employment Program

     One of the key components of a clubhouse program is transitional employment. Transitional employment offers members an opportunity to return to paid employment.  Key aspects of a transition employment position include:

  • Time-limited, entry-level positions owned and maintained by the clubhouse.  The placement usually lasts 6 to 9 months. At the completion of the transitional employment placement the member can choose to pursue another transitional position or move to a competitive/independent employment position.
  • Positions usually parallel typical working hours and last 15 to 20 hours a week. Members get paid directly from the employer.
  • Staff learn all aspects of the job and train the member on site until the member is comfortable on their own.
  • Coverage is guaranteed. Clubhouse staff will substitute in case of absenteeism, but the employer does not pay clubhouse staff for their time on the job.
